The rain from yesterday had gone so we went to Haworth today where the Brontes lived ... a really sweet little cobbled town with references to the Brontes & their stories everywhere!
The original Railway Children was also filmed in Haworth and ... Station ... it is the cutest little station and when we got home we of coarse had to watch it ... Wouldn't it be great to live in the actual 3 Chimneys cottage (we didn't see it so don't know where it actually is) and even if it wasn't called The 3 Chimneys, I think I would have to change the name and call it that! 'Oh, my daddy, my daddy' .... makes me cry every time!

Came to Bradford today to see my brother Luke and his fiancee Ruth .... Bradford isn't what I expected ... I have only been a couple of times years ago when Luke was at Uni here to pick him up or drop him off .... the streets he lived in were a bit of a dive, but Ruth's house is in a sweet little street and the centre of Bradford is full of old buildings ... We called into the Media Museum this afternoon to get out of the rain ... we spent the whole afternoon there as it was brilliant ... lots of things to try out and you can watch old BBC programs in your own private screening. We watched Worzel Gummidge ... not the best episode, but it was fun and I had totally forgotten about The Crow Man!

Here is my review of Under The Skin by Michel Faber (
bloggybookclub)
I wouldn’t call this book a pleasure to read, but it was intriguing in a gross kinda way and I didn’t want to put it down, it also stayed with me and I found myself thinking about it when I wasn’t reading which is surely a sign that the writer has achieved something.
When I first started it I thought she was just a serial killer but soon realised there was more to her and more going on. I didn’t warm to her as she had a hardness to her, but I did feel sorry for her & the drastic mutilation that was irreversible and caused her so much pain. I would like to have known more about her background that was only hinted at that would make her agree to go through with it.
I felt the reason for it all was disappointing that it was only about food, all that effort and expense was just to provide luxury food for the very rich, but I guess that is the point of the book .... the parallels to our own attitude to food and animals.
Although not warming to Isserley, I did want her to be able to escape and settle near a remote beach ... but I think in the end, she had to die really :(
Its also sad the portrayal of 90% of the men she captured were shallow and heartless characters and heart breaking that the couple of nice men should end up the way they did. I think in a good book or film you need to have at least someone to warm to, and apart from the couple of men who were only in it fleetingly, there was no one to like. And the one who did try to make a difference, Amlis Vess, did seem to give up quite easily.
All in all, it was a good read, although very disturbing, Not a book I would recommend to everyone, but I am passing it on to my sister in law who has a strong stomach!
You need to pop over to
All About The boys to find out what everyone else thought!

I think this post should really be called ... what time??? ... did a car boot today and got up at 5.45 so we would be there for 6.50 ... EARLY START ... the gates opened at 7.15 and yes there were people looking round that early on a Sunday morning when most normal civilized people would be in bed!
Had a pitch next to a lovely couple and managed to sell half of what I went with ... also managed to make it home without mum filling the car with stuff she had bought!
Felt knackered the rest of the day though!!
Been exploring with
Dilly,
went the other side of the main road and into some fields that had been
ploughed ... the view was amazing ... a lovely kind of scenery that is
very English .... rolling hills and LOTS of trees which is good cos I am
a bit of a tree hugger and love trees.
I got a couple of Christmas presents this week so have made a start. Really must
start making a list though as I have been so unorganized this year.

A few days ago the lovely
Michelle from Shellybobbins
asked if I would be one of her testers for her new soap that she is
making ... of course I said yes! I have never been asked to be a tester
before :) It arrived yesterday and smelled DIVINE!
I have already given it a BIG test, helping my
dad put the roofing felt on the extension
... got tar all over my hands ... white spirit got it off, but white
spirit stinks and Shelly's soap worked wonders leaving my hands smelling
yummy and I have been sniffing my hands ever since! hehe
Please check out her
blog and
facebook page to find out more!

I took a few pictures this week, these are the rest of them ...
I treated myself ... a little treat for little me ... earrings (my one weakness!) ... and they arrived this morning ...
Do you know how hard it is to take a picture of yourself wearing
earrings?? well its hard (wet hair doesn't improve the picture either!
hehe) ... so you can see them better here ...
They are made by
Sophie ~
Trinket Box and are perfect ... I love them & are just what I wanted ... garnet droplets.
other news ...
Yey, lost another pound this week :)
Have spent the day pottering ... doing lots of little jobs .... I think
we are going to do a carboot on Sunday, so got lots to sort out for
then.
... also found the cutest little shop in town called 'Utter Clutter' .... isn't that just the best name!
We are living with a bit of a building site in the back garden at the moment. I Helped my dad put on the roof of the extension ... its likes a real room
now ... feels really big ... its going to be so great when its
completed! Dad has worked so hard at it!
Dilly has
had great fun in the garden too ... she has been helping mum do
some digging ... all day! no naps for her today, but she slept well this
evening!
I still haven't got over the amount fruit that just grows wild on the bushes here and berries ... ever bush has berries and so many different types ... I got a bit carried away with snapping pics on my phone ... so they are not the best but they show all the different colours!
Finished Under The Skin for the
bloggbookclub ... mum skim read it in a day and wanted me to hurry up and finish it so she could talk to me about it! You will have to go to
All About The Boys blog on 28th September to find out what we all thought!
We went to see my brother, sister-in-law and new baby niece ... had a lovely lovely cuddle with her ... she is so ickle and sweet ... wanted to take her home ...
I did break my sandal on the way home ... but I guess they are about 4 years old!
I went into town this morning & to the doctors ... My notes haven't arrived from my old doctors yet, and the wrote my birthday down wrong .... apparently I am 57 not 34! I must say I think I look pretty good for 57 :)
I also got Sepulcher by Kate Mosse out of the library ... I read her other book Labyrinth years ago and really enjoyed it.
The day seems to have flown by!
My gorgeous little nephew is getting Christened in a few weeks and so I
have been scouring the lovely handmade sites for a gift for him. Gifts
for girls seem to be easier ... I made my niece and other Goddaughter
handmade silver crosses. I was so pleased when I found
With Hugs and Kisses Folksy Shop ... she hand paints beautiful door plaques among other gorgeous goodies.
It arrived this morning and I am so pleased with it ... its perfect ... (look away now Tanya if you don't want to see it yet!)
Its going to be a lovely weekend cos lots of family will be there & I
am hoping to get a photo of my nieces & nephew all together :)
Started the day off well by losing a pound :)
Had a lovely girlie shop in Hereford today ... There were a few ups and downs like mum leaving her purse at home and me wearing shoes that I haven't worn much before ... sore feet and knowing that only flip-flops would help ... I went on the hunt for some sandals ... well not a single shop had any left ... Autumn stock now in ... that was until I went to Accessorize ... they saved my feet as they had a few pairs left ... and as it was Accessorize, they were pretty.
Hereford is a really lovely city, we had a lovely coffee in the cathedral ... there was a pretty little garden there. And there were some lovely shops ... I can't wait to go back and do some Christmas shopping! We did make one friend ... the old cleaner in the shopping centre ... we asked him where Argos was (mum needed a new watch) and he reckoned that we had walked passed it (typical women not noticing!) ... actually we entered the shopping centre from a different direction, but we had a laugh with him ... of course when we needed the loo a few hours later we were told that the shopping centre was the nearest ... of course when we got there we bumped into him again ... he was coming out of them after cleaning them and we joked that we would be back in an hour asking him where something else was!
Anyway it was so lovely day and I was reminded of a very important life lesson ... never go shopping in new shoes!
I won't bore you with an update every day on my rug! but Teri asked to see a close up of it ...
I did another 8 rows last night so you can kinda see how the stripes
will look ... and I have been really careful and still managed to not
get into a tangle, although the wool did catch on my toe ring and I
thought I was going to pull the whole thing apart!
Well I couldn't wait and started my rug last night ... I decided to try
the loop style first, before I cut up all the wool into little lengths
and regretted it ... I am really pleased with how its looking ...
I am using 3 strands of wool at once which has given it a lovely mottled
look. I have done 4 rows so far (its 1m x 1/2m) and I am doing the
stripes across the shorter width. I am so pleased with it so far and
haven't got into a tangle yet! (yet ... I am sure it won't be long! ...
hehe)
